Hope Valley

Our Policies

At Hope Valley u3a, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all our members. Our policies are developed in line with the standards set by the national u3a movement and help guide how we operate as a volunteer-led organisation.

We currently have approved policies in place for

  • Health and Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Equality Diversity and Inclusion

These policies ensure the wellbeing of all members taking part in u3a activities and are available to download below.

We are also in the process of drafting our Data Protection and Privacy

The Data Protection Policy will be published here once finalised and approved by the Executive Committee.

All our policies are intended to reflect best practice and to help us maintain a welcoming and well-run u3a for everyone. With this in mind, we are committed to reviewing them on an annual basis, ahead of our AGM.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact our Chair.

Hope Valley u3a Approved Policies

1. Health and Safety

The overall purpose of our Health and Safety Policy is to ensure that Hope Valley u3a provides and maintains safe and healthy conditions for all members during meetings and events. We aim to ensure that reasonable care is taken to prevent harm and that all participants are made aware of potential risks.

The policy includes guidance on insurance and risk assessments, and we have also provided an incident form for convenors to record any serious incidents that occur during group activities.

2. Safeguarding

"Safeguarding" refers to measures designed to protect the health, wellbeing and human rights of individuals. Safeguarding is everbody's responsibility, and members must bring safeguarding concerns in confidence to the Executive Committee

It is a legal requirement that all u3as have a safeguarding policy to protect their members.

The policy includes guidance on personal member risk assessment.

3. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

This policy has been drawn up to comply with the Equality Act 2010, which stipulates that organisations cannot treat someone unfairly on the basis of 'protected characteristics', which include ethnic origin, age, disability, religion or belief, marital status, sexual orientation, pregnancy, gender reassignment, sex.
