We are very privileged to live in the Hope Valley with its varied landscapes which are some of the most stunning in the Peak District. We have excellent road and rail links between many of our villages and to cities such as Sheffield and Manchester. Since our inauguration in July 2014, we have created a thriving u3a with many enthusiastic members and 20 varied interest groups. The ethos of the u3a movement is to foster lifelong learning in a sociable environment, utilising the enthusiasm and expertise of its members. If you are no longer in full-time employment and want to share your interests with like-minded people, do consider joining us

Join us for our monthly meetings, held at 2 pm during the third week of each month at Hathersage Memorial Hall. These gatherings feature engaging speakers and offer a wonderful chance to connect with friends over a cup of tea while exploring our various interest groups.

Whether you’re a long-standing member or considering joining, you’re warmly invited to come along. If you’re unsure whether the U3A is right for you, this is a perfect opportunity to see what we’re all about and help you decide. We’d love to welcome you!

We now have 20 active interest with more in the pipeline. The Group Convenors are usually on hand at our monthly Open Meetings to give an idea of what each group intends to do. We are always open to suggestions for starting up new groups.

New members, whether they be residents of the Hope Valley or from surrounding towns and villages, are always welcome. Members of other u3as are also welcome to join. All you need to do is download a membership application form from the Membership Page of the website, complete it and post it to the address given on the form.

Our Executive Committee

Hope Valley U3A is a local group that’s part of the wider University of the Third Age (u3a) network, dedicated to lifelong learning, social connection, and personal growth.

We are led by an executive committee, which includes key roles such as the Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. This committee also has several members who act as focal points for our group convenors, helping to coordinate and support the wide range of activities we offer.

In addition, we have a Speaker Finder who organises engaging talks for our monthly meetings and a dedicated team that plans and manages events to bring our members together. The committee meets once a month to ensure everything runs smoothly and to discuss ideas for improving and growing our U3A.

The membership come together at our Annual General Meeting where we review the past year and share our plans for the future. We are always open to new ideas from the membership.

Together, we’re committed to creating a vibrant, welcoming community where everyone can contribute, learn, and thrive!
